25-26 October 2006 - Visit to Réunion-Island from a german delegation of Renewable Energy Companies
The delegation is composed by experts like DENA and world leading companies like Q-CELLS, Denaro, Frings Bio Tech GmbH, Phönix Sonnenwärme, SMA Technologie AG, Sonnenkraft GmbH.. After visiting Mauritius, the delegation met with energy actors from Réunion Island. Franck AL SHAKARCHI attended the meetings and presented Island-NEWS. The visit was organised by the French-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Agency for Development of Réunion, ARER and the Regional Council.

24 October 2006 - Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayetta and Réunion Island join the validation committee on the Island-NEWS common framework for Energy Profile
Mr MUNGUR (Ministry of Public Utilities, Mauritius), Dr. RAKOTONIAINA (Polytechnic University of Antananarivo, Madagascar), Mr. IBRAHIM (General Council of Mayetta, Mayetta - France) and Ms GILBOIRE (Energy Observatory of Réunion Island, Réunion Island - France) accepts to join the validation committee on the Island-NEWS common framework for Energy Profile

23 October 2006 -Dr BOUCHARD from Laurentian University (Canada), an Island-NEWS member, files in a research project on Energy in Indian Ocean islands
The research project is about establishing Energy Profiles and Ressources, a transition theory and a link between energy and development. His research partners are Dr. ELAHEE from Univesity of Mauritius and Franck AL SHAKARCHI. The project was filed with SSHRC, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Canada's federal funding agency for university-based research and student training in the social sciences and humanities.

20 October 2006 - Island-NEWS common framework for Energy Profile
Franck AL SHAKARCHI launches a project for establishing a common framework for Energy Profile among Island-NEWS partners. He will be writing the framework. A validation committee is being constituted with network members.

16-17 October 2006 - Visit of Christophe RAT from Island-NEWS to Rodrigues
Christophe RAT, ARER director, met representatives from the Commission for Environnement, Fisheries, Forestry, Housing, Infrastructure, Marine Parks, and Transport of Rodrigues Regional Assembly: Mr Jean Paul COLIN, departemental Head, Mr Franceau Aubret GRANDCOURT, Commissioner, and Mr Joseph Nachaniel PERRINE, Engineer. A cooperation process about a long-term plan for Energy Management and Renewable Energy Sources is launched.

12-13 October 2006 - Visit of a delegation from Island-NEWS to Mauritius
Christophe RAT, ARER director, and Franck AL SHAKARCHI met the main Mauritian Energy Actors during a two-day trip. They would like to thank all the partners for the warm welcome they received. A cooperation process was launched with:
- the Ministry of Public Utilities
- the Central Electricity Board
- the Mauritius Research Council
- the Mauritius Meteorological Services
- the University of Technology, Mauritius
- the University of Mauritius

9 October 2006 - The Ministry of Public Utilities, Mauritius, accepts the visit of a delegation from Island-NEWS
The honourable Dr KASENALLY, Minister of Public Utilities, Mauritius,accepts to support the visit of a delegation from Island-NEWS in order to meet the Mauritian Energy actors.

6 October 2006 - Mr IDI NADHOIM, vice-president of Comoros Union, contacts ARER about Geothermal power on Karthala
ARER did in 2005 an opportunity study for use of Geothermal power on Karthala, the valcano in Comoros. Mr IDI NADHOIM is very interested by the results of this study and would like to launch a cooperation process with Island-NEWS.

6 October 2006 - The Regional Council of Réunion Island writes to the Ministry of Public Utilities, Mauritius, about energy cooperation
Mr Paul VERGES, President of the Regional Council of Réunion Island, asked the honourable Dr KASENALLY, Minister of Public Utilities, Mauritius, to support the visit of a delegation from Island-NEWS in order to meet the Mauritian Energy actors.

6 October 2006 - Meeting with representatives from Mayetta
Mr Antoine CHASSAIGNON and Mr Mohamed AHMED HAROUSSI, Environment and Sustainable Development Direction - General Council of Mayetta, attended a training session organized by ARER. They met with Franck AL SHAKARCHI to discuss cooperation on Energy.

4-5 October 2006 - RupPlus meeting in Réunion Island: Regional integration in South-Western Idian Ocean
This meeting gathered representatives from Ultra-Peripheral Regions and from European Commission to discuss regional integration. Franck AL SHAKARCHI attended the meeting.
